Take $A,B\in {\mathcal{M}}_{n\times n}(\mathbf{F})$
If there is an invertible $n\times n$ matrix $P$ such that $A=P^{-1}BP$ then

$$A\text{ and }B\text{ are similar}$$

It is also an equivalence relation
