Rank-Nullity Theorem

If T:V→W is linear transformation and V is finite dimensional then

dim(V)=dim(Ker(T))+dim(ImT)

Proof

Apply dimension formula for quotient spaces to U=kerT then

dim(V)=dim(Ker(T))+dim(V/Ker(T))

But by First Isomorphism Theorem - V2 then

dim(V/Ker(T))=dim(Im(T)

So the result follows
